The Burnett Team cleans up
with Ross Marshall taking 2 wins & a third and John Jon Higgins taking a win & 2 second places
What a miserable start to the annual visit of the Touring Cars weekend. We were out for qualifying at 9 a.m. on Saturday on a very wet track. But the forecast had promised improving weather which duly arrived in time to dry out the track for our first heat just after lunch and, in spite of a stiff breeze, for it to be a very pleasant afternoon.
We were joined again from the south by Simon Belcher, in his ‘sister’ car following a his horrendous accident the weekend before at Anglesey which wrote off his own car, and for the first time this season by Jon Jon Higgins and National Rookie contender Ben Power.
Car 10 was again on the grid driven by father Frank on the Saturday and by Jason on the Sunday. We also welcomed back Ali Thom, Aly Hunter, Lance Gauld and Mike Hogg.
Elliot Mason was at the helm of team car 22 for the Saturday with Ben planning to pilot it on the Sunday and cars 44 & 37 were again under the control of, respectively, Andrew Donald and Stevie Coull.
Other notable variations were Chris Hynds in the former car 88 (Jason Ogg’s car) which he had acquired to replace his which was severely damaged at the Speedfair Meeting, and Nick Brace driving what is usually car 7 as his own car was unable to be repaired in time following his multiple cartwheels at Anglesey the weekend before.
It is a testament to the ‘wee’ cars that neither Nick nor Simon were badly hurt in what was a truly severe accident. And it was good to see Ericco Palazzo’s car looking pristine new following its damage sustained at the last round.
And so a tremendous grid of 28 cars formed up for the first heat.
I apologise for there being no ‘report’ as such on each of the races but I failed to make notes after the Saturday and advancing years prevent much recall of the day’s action.
Suffice it to say that the Burnett pair of Jon Jon Higgins and Ross Marshall dominated proceedings with Frank Hynds, Alisdair Gauld, Ross Mickel and Simon Belcher all featuring at the sharp end.
