Carol takes two more wins
whilst Ben, driving Team Car 44, takes the other
And so to our "double header" with six races in the one day. The weather forecast on Thursday evening was dire, predicting heavy rain all Sunday. The following evening this had been moderated to dry but cloudy. By Saturday evening it had swung completely and the forecast was for almost wall-to-wall sunshine. And thank goodness this is what we had. Indeed it was positively warm for the first time this year.
We were missing Ali Thom and Frank Ogg but John Marshall and Mark Lees were back in the fray and we were joined by Errico Palazzo, who has never raced before and only sat his ARDS test a few days before, out in car 30. The Team cars saw different drivers with Alex Knight back in Car 31, Ben Mason at the helm of Car 44, Steve Coull back in Car 37 and Gordon Mann at the helm of Car 07.
And so a grid of 25 cars gathered in the Assembly Area.

The fastest lap times were achieved by mid race distance as, following a coming together between Mervyn Wilson and Mark Lees after the chicane (which sidelined Mark), Mervyn carried on not realising he was trailing an oil slick (which was particularly bad at the hairpin) before pulling off. However driving car 44 as a team entrant, Ben took up the running fairly early on and just held on to win from a fast closing Carol Brown (who had started 20th on the grid). Tony Caig was next home with Alasdair Gauld and Oly Mortimer in close attendance. In his first race ‘in-the-pack’, Richard Crozier came home a very creditable 6th albeit by just 1/1000th of a second from John. Also ‘in-the-pack’ fort he first time was Chris Hynds who was next up holding off David Thorburn and Alex Knight the latter two having been caught out by the oil.
Non finishers also included Gordon Mann, Ross Marshall (unable to avoid Frank Hynds at the hairpin), Stewart Black, Murray Ford.

Unfortunately this race only lasted into lap 5 being red-flagged after a shunt involving Frank and Colin Atkinson at Duffus. Colin was badly shaken and an old shoulder injury was severely aggravated. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope he’ll be out again in June.
Carol went one better this time taking the lead by the hairpin and easing away from Ross. Frank had got through to third and was being pressed by Oly when a coming together approaching McIntyres saw Oly briefly in the air and Frank off onto the gravel. This allowed Gerard McCosh back through and settling in behind Oly. John was next up with Scott and Tony hot on his heels. A bit of a gap and then came Chris with David, Ben and Stewart all in close attendance.
Heat 2 - 4 laps
1st Carol Brown 4m 15.76 secs (72.06 mph), 2nd Ross Marshall, 3rd Oliver Mortimer, 4th Gerard McCosh, 5th John Marshall, 6th Scott Hynds, 7th Tony Caig, 8th Chris Hynds, 9th David Thorburn, 10th Ben Mason, 11th Stewart Black, 12th Pat Hynds, 13th Stevie Coull, 14th Alex Knight, 15th Alasdair Gauld, 16th Kenny Thomson, 17th Richard Crozier, 18th Gordon Mann, 19th Jason Ogg, 20th Mervyn Wilson, 21st Murray Ford, 22nd Ericco Palazzo. DNF Colin Atkinson, Frank Hynds.
Fastest lap: Oly Mortimer 60.98 secs (75.56 mph)

Final

In a superb drive from the back of the grid (off 22nd ), Carol made it through to take her second win of the day. But she was kept honest by Tony (off 19th) who came home just half a second behind her. Frank held on for a comfortable 3rd place. Next up was Alex with Jason just behind and Ben closing in. David was kept honest by Pat Hynds for the next two slots. And Stewart held John and Scott at bay to take 9th place.
Non finishers were Oly and Murray.
Final - 10 laps
1st Carol Brown 10m 29.40 secs (73.21 mph), 2nd Tony Caig, 3rd Frank Hynds, 4th Alex Knight, 5th Jason Ogg, 6th Ben Mason, 7th David Thorburn, 8th Pat Hynds, 9th Stewart Blcak, 10th John Marshall, 11th Scott Hynds, 12th Alasdair Gauld, 13th Gerard McCosh, 14th Richard Crozier, 15th Stevie Coull, 16th Gordon Mann, 17th Chris Hynds, 18th Kenny Thomson, 19th Ross Marshall, 20th Mark Lees, 21st Mervyn Wilson, 22nd Ericco Palazzo.
